Lapol® 108 is primarily only used in high mineral loading applications where sufficient melt viscosity for a homogeneous distribution of the minerals is required. The resin can be purchased as a concentrate masterbatch (up to 30%) in polylactic acid (PLA) ready to be let down in PLA formulations without the need for additional compatibilizers. Lapol® 108 PLA masterbatches are packaged in 25 kg bags or in 750 kg cartons and are sealed in air tight metallic bags for moisture protection. Please contact us to discuss the PLA grade of the base resin to be compounded with Lapol® 108.
Many applications using PLA require higher temperature resistance to avoid deformation, deflection, and in some cases, sticking or blocking of nested articles in transit. By properly processing and compounding 11% of Lapol® HDT-P and PLA 3001D, 4032D or 7000D, the user can increase the heat deflection temperatures in excess of 100 °C / 212 °F. This capability greatly expands the potential uses and applications to PLA.
Lapol® HDT-P is available in granule form and may be added directly into the injection molder or thermoformer. Please download the link below for the full technical data sheet and processing guideline.
Lapol® HDT-P resin is very suitable to be added to PLA for injection molding applications. Lapol® HDT-P is compounded and ready for use in the injetion molder. As with all PLA processing, a dryer is recommened for optimal propoerties.
Thermoforming
Biopolymer resins requiring heat resistance in thermoforming applications are suitable for the Lapol® HDT-P resin. Many high temperature applications cannot use PLA due to distortion or sticking, By adding Lapol® HDT-P to the resin, the film and thermoformed article will not distort under temperature or stick to itselt when shipped or stored at elevated temperatures. Recent customers have experienced a 40% increase in throughput compared to running neat PLA. Please contact us at info@lapol.net for further information.
Cast and Blown Film
Cast PLA films have been shown to increase toughness from 50%-70% with as little as 5% and 20% addition of Lapol® HDT-P bioderived resin. A unique property, however, of the Lapol® resins, is that the films maintain their modulus, whereas other aliphatic/aromatic copolyesters make the films limp and flimsy.
